Report: Robert Mathis, Indianapolis Colts’ Defensive End, Wants a New Deal

We've seen a lot of players in the AFC South demanding new contracts lately.

First, we saw Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. Then it was Houston Texans' wide receiver Andre Johnson. Then it was Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis.

Now it's another Mathis.

Indianapolis Colts' defensive end Robert Mathis demanded a new contract from the team. Mathis won't participate in any teams activities for a while, because he wants a new deal.

Mathis has two years left on his $30 million contract he signed back in 2006. He is due $2.3 million in 2010, and $2.4 million in 2011.

The 29-year-old, seven-year pro had 9.5 sacks last year, earning himself a spot in the Pro Bowl.

That total of sacks was second on the team, next to Dwight Freeney's number of 13.5 sacks.

Mathis will probably have to wait for his new contract, though. Peyton Manning still hasn't received his deal that Jim Irsay announced was going to be huge.
