Peyton Manning: Colts Aging QB To Join NFL Expansion Portland Pioneers?

Okay, Okay, so the headline was fun, but seriously, let's talk NFL expansion.

In April of 2000, a group of "bigwig" business representatives from the Portland Oregon area, reported their intent to fly to NFL headquarters in New York to convey their interest in having a professional football team. Their main goal was to "get the ball rolling" with NFL officials, by taking the necessary steps to begin making a real run for a franchise opportunity.

Then-president of the Oregon Sports Authority, Randy Miller, one of the group's members, spoke about their strong-willed motivation.

"It has to start somewhere, so we're taking it upon ourselves to start the process," Miller said. "And we're very, very bullish about it." (per Portland Business Journal)
