More to Indianapolis Colts’ Secondary Than “Bobzilla”

What is the first name that comes to mind when mentioning the Colts' defense.

Most would say it would be Bob Sanders, while others say Dwight Freeney. Both defensive stars will have major implications on how the Colts fare this season. Health has always been the No. 1 issue with both of them, and that won't change this year.

The fact is, as much time as Sanders has missed over his career, the Colts have had success in finding more than capable replacements in the secondary.

In 2004, 2006, and 2008, Sanders only played in 16 total games, basically missing two entire seasons. In 2005 he played 14 games and went to his first Pro Bowl, while the 15 games he played in 2007 earned him the Defensive Player of the Year award.

In Sanders' absence, there were a combination of replacements, and this year is no exception. Behind him on the depth chart sits third-year player Melvin Bullitt.
