Twitter Looks Ahead to Week 3: Indianapolis Colts vs. San Francisco 49ers

Headed into Week 3 of the NFL season, who would’ve guessed that the matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers would have the most pregame news surrounding the two.
With both team’s coming into Sunday afternoon’s contest (4:25 p.m. ET on CBS) sitting at 1-1, both teams desperately need a win. We’ll take a look at the week in personnel news for the Colts and 49ers.
The Indianapolis Colts and general manager Ryan Grigson pulled the trigger Wednesday on a trade that landed 2012 third overall pick Trent Richardson , the running back from Cleveland, in exchange for Indy’s 2014 1st-round pick.
Richardson, only 18 games into his NFL career, will be a big asset for the Colts offense, who proclaimed in the offseason to be switching to a run-heavy offense.
The second-year running back out of Alabama is a big, physical, hard-nosed runner who will bring good pass protection and backfield receiving to the Colts. The 1st-round pick, sent to Cleveland, gives the Cleveland Browns seven picks in the first five rounds of next May’s NFL draft.
The Cleveland management is making way for both their own players and a new franchise quarterback. The Browns have had 19 different starting quarterbacks since 1999.
One concern for the Colts headed into Sunday, coming off a 24-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins , is injuries. Following the loss of starting running back Vick Ballard for the year last week, the Colts haven’t exactly had an ideal week this week either.
According to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star, here is the Colts injury report as of Friday afternoon—
Following that injury report, Chappell tweeted that the Colts’ brass withheld receiver T.Y. Hilton from Friday’s practice, citing a groin injury. This all coming on the heels of Wednesday’s announcement that tight end Dwayne Allen would miss the season with a hip injury.
The loss of LaRon Landry, and possibly Antoine Bethea for this secondary, is huge, especially playing a quarterback-receiver combo such as Colin Kaepernick and Anquan Boldin.
The 49ers also have some trouble of their own brewing. Linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested Friday morning following a singe vehicle accident, on the suspicion of possession of drugs and driving under the influence, according to ESPN.
Though it is still unclear what impact, if any, Smith’s arrest will have on Sunday’s game, 49er fans should expect to see the league take action at some point.
All in all, this game looks to be an all-out struggle for the Colts. With offensive line issues, which have been accelerated by the loss of guard Donald Thomas for the season, Andrew Luck will feel the heat from this 49ers pass rush.
Even if Richardson heats up and has a great ground game, I can’t see the Colts weak pass defense containing Kaepernick and his gazelle-like scrambling. I will never bet against my Colts, but if I were a betting man, I would be throwing money on San Francisco in a hurry.
