Reggie Wayne and Andrew Luck Make Prime-Time Apperance on Parks and Recreation

He’s a big star, but Andrew Luck hasn’t been on television much this year, except when the Indianapolis Colts [1] were actually playing games.

That changed Thursday night as Luck and Reggie Wayne [2] guest-starred along with Colts owner Jim Irsay on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.

Parks and Rec has many natural ties [3] to the Colts. The show takes place in fictional Pawnee, Indiana, and the character Andy Dyer has long expressed a fixation with Wayne.

Of course, the show got unusual attention last year when co-star Rob Lowe announced via Twitter that Peyton Manning [4] would retire. Lowe is good friends with Irsay, a relationship played up in the show.

Parks and Rec featured current and past Pacers players like Roy Hibbert and Detlef Schrempf in previous episodes. Hibbert had a cameo in this one as well.

The setup for Luck and Wayne involved a revolving bachelor party where each member of the parks department had the chance to live out his dream bachelor party fantasy.

As the group rotated from board games, to ice cream, to a meal at the famed St. Elmo’s steakhouse, it wound up tossing the pigskin with Luck and Wayne.

Luck’s pass was more on target than his delivery. His line, while hilarious, wasn’t exactly fluid. Compared with Manning’s epic turn on Saturday Night Live [5], Luck’s acting chops are strictly second-string.

Still, it was a welcome chance for fans to see Luck in a different environment. While Robert Griffin III was plastered all over billboards and television, Luck’s highest profile endorsement came on behalf of the local library [6].

While this stint was probably just a favor for Irsay, it’s safe to say that we’ll see a lot more Luck commercials this offseason. There were weird, nonsensical rumors [7] that endorsements were a sticking point in early negotiations between the Colts and Luck, but nothing ever came of it.

Of course, if he is looking for a high-profile endorsement deal, maybe Luck can hire Entertainment 720 to help.
