NFL Week 7 Preview: Indianapolis Colts vs. Cleveland Browns

The Colts [1] were bad on all fronts last week. After Andrew Luck led the Colts to a miraculous second half comeback against the Packers [2] two weeks ago, they played downright horrendous last week in a 35-9 loss to the Jets [3] at the Meadowlands, characterized by four Colt turnovers.

This week, the Colts look to put that dismal performance behind them when the 1-5 Cleveland Browns [4], who got their first win of the season last week, visit Lucas Oil Stadium.

The game will be a matchup of rookie quarterbacks: Indy’s Luck and Cleveland’s Brandon Weeden. While both quarterbacks have proved to be inconsistent, they have shown flashes of brilliance and have very similar numbers.

The key for the Colts is to stop the run, something which has proved difficult thus far, especially last week. No matter which back plays, Trent Richardson or Montario Hardesty, the Colts stop the rush, forcing Weeden to pass.

The Colts’ defense is helped by the return of linebacker Pat Angerer [5], who is expected to see his first action of the regular season after suffering a foot injury during the preseason. However, defense end Cory Redding and outside linebacker Robert Mathis are not expected to play.

The Colts have not lost consecutive games yet this season. They will contain the Browns’ rushers. Weeden will make some nice passes but will be pressured throughout the game by the Colts’ pass defense, led by Dwight Freeney. Andrew Luck will come through in the clutch, leading a scoring drive in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Prediction: Colts 28  Browns 21
