NFL Week 3 Predictions: Indianapolis Colts vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Posted By Greg Judy On September 20, 2012 @ 9:50 am In Colts News | No Comments

Each time the Colts [1] and Jaguars [2] meet, no matter what each team’s record may be, the game is always close and usually ends on a last-second scoring drive. This week will be no different.

The Jaguars are searching for their first win of the season. They lost a close one two weeks ago against Minnesota, and then they were blown out by Houston [3] at home. This rebuilding Jacksonville team is desperate for a win.

The Colts, on the other hand, got their first win of the season at home last week against Minnesota, despite a fourth-quarter comeback led by Vikings [4]‘ quarterback Christian Ponder. The Colts seek to rise above .500 for the first time in two years.

But in order to do this, they must be able to handle Maurice Jones-Drew, who led the NFL [5] in rushing last season. The Colts succeeded last week in holding Adrian Peterson [6] to only 60 rushing yards, but this week will be more challenging. Jones-Drew is small and thick, yet quick and agile. He continues to confound defenses each week.

The Colts’ offense will be less conservative than it was against Minnesota. The Colts will look to gain the lead early and keep it.

Dwight Freeney likely will miss a second consecutive game with a sprained ankle. However, Austin Collie is expected to make his season debut Sunday, having practiced with the team yesterday.

Prediction: The Colts will win their second game in a row at home Sunday. Jones-Drew will have flashes of brilliance, but the Colts’ defense will hold him to under 100 rushing yards.

Colts 24, Jaguars 14
