NFL Week 2 Predictions: Indianapolis Colts vs. Minnesota Vikings

Posted By Greg Judy On September 12, 2012 @ 2:52 pm In Colts News | No Comments

Last week did not go as planned for the Colts [1]. Despite the fact that they started the game strong with a sack by Robert Mathis and a pick-six by Jerrell Freeman, both the offense and the defense faltered in the second half.

Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck also struggled, committing four turnovers, including three interceptions, despite the fact that he threw for 309 yards.

This week, the Colts take on the Minnesota Vikings [2]. The Vikings are coming off a three-point win over Jacksonville [3]. The Vikings will continue to poke at the Colts’ run defense, which turned out very weak against Chicago [4]. Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson [5] had a very nice game last week in which he ran for two touchdowns. Peterson, it seems, is completely healthy and will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Colts, on the other hand, will try to get at quarterback Christian Ponder early, just as they did with Jay Cutler [6]. However, the success of the defense hinges on the status of Dwight Freeney. He is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, due to a sprained ankle. When he got hurt last week, the momentum of the Colts’ defense went with him.

Andrew Luck will face a much easier defense than that of Chicago. Let’s hope he got those first game jitters out of the way. The return of wide receiver Austin Collie gives Luck another passing target.

The Colts will tweak their offense, but the defense will still be sub-par. This is a very winnable game for the Colts, but it will be close throughout. The game could even go into overtime.

Prediction: Colts 33  Vikings 27 OT
