Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears: TCF Bank Stadium Update

Posted By Patrick Clarke On December 16, 2010 @ 12:18 pm In Colts News | No Comments

The Minnesota Vikings [1] still are not sure where they will be playing this week’s home Monday night game against the Chicago Bears [2].

The Vikings [1] were forced to play the New York Giants [3] at Ford Field in Detroit [4] last Monday night after the roof caved in at the Metrodome on Sunday.

Talk of the Vikings playing their Monday night game at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium has been met with plenty of challenges however.

ESPN’s John Clayton has since reported [5] that the necessary modifications that would have to made to the stadium in order for the conditions to be considered appropriate for staff and fans alike would cost over $700,000 and possibly reach somewhere close to $1 million.

Crews are currently working at TCF Bank Stadium hoping to clear the snowfall and melt the ice that has frozen the field before the end of the day Sunday.

Another option Minnesota has is to play at Lucas Oil Stadium, which has been offered to them by the Indianapolis Colts [6].

However according to Clayton, Vikings officials fear that Bears’ fans would buy up all the tickets.

Vikings’ owner Zygi Wilf seems set on playing the game outdoors in the brutal Minnesota winter.

“…I look forward to being back outdoors the way I was always used to watching games and enjoying games,” said Wilf.

According to Clayton, Monday night football is a go from TCF Bank Stadium if crews can remove the snow and ice, and if television and camera crews arrive on Thursday to survivable conditions.
