The #Titans released quarterback Matt Hasselbeck today.

However, the veteran signal-caller wasted no time in finding a new home, as he took his talents to Indianapolis. NFL .com’s Ian Rapoport reported that Hasselbeck is close to agreeing to a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts .
As others have reported, Matt Hasselbeck is close to a deal with the Colts, source said. Will be a two-year deal.

This move is not official yet, but when it happens it will be a great deal for both parties.
The former Seattle Seahawk has had a long and illustrious career, attending three Pro Bowls and becoming the Seahawks’ all-time passing yards leader. He took Seattle to Super Bowl XL in 2005, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a game that was marred by horrible officiating.
Nonetheless, Hasselbeck will be 38 years old for much of the 2013-14 NFL season and is far removed from his glory days. He is now a part of the QB cycle. It is his time to serve as a mentor and a veteran presence and help guide along a young signal-caller.
That young superstar comes in the form of Andrew Luck. Luck, a Stanford product, had a brilliant rookie season. He passed for 4,374 yards and 23 touchdowns. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was turning the lowly Indianapolis Colts into a playoff team.
In order for that success to continue, he will need some help. Despite a first season that saw Luck complete 54.1 percent of his passes and do his best Peyton Manning impression, the Sophomore Slump is a real phenomenon. The chances he sputters in 2013 are high.
The Colts brought in a savvy veteran to limit those chances.
Furthermore, Hasselbeck will be able to mold Luck into the type of athlete that can have continued success for many seasons. Both quarterbacks are stand-up guys and team players. Yet, Luck can still learn a lot from his older counterpart.
Now, this is the part that Colts fans don’t want to hear. What if their quarterback of the future gets injured, a la Robert Griffin III of the Redskins?
It would be a catastrophic situation, no doubt. The league has seen the importance of a good backup quarterback on numerous occasions. Think Kirk Cousins with the Redskins or Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick of the Seahawks and 49ers. Even T.J. Yates came in and won a playoff game for the Houston Texans with Matt Schaub sidelined.
The point is that quarterbacks get injured all the time and teams need to provide insurance for the most important position in the game. A backup quarterback can come to define a season when the unthinkable happens.
The former Titan is a viable option if Luck gets injured, and he is a significant upgrade over Drew Stanton, who left via free agency.
Hasselbeck has a career quarterback rating of 82.2 and a career completion percentage of 60.4. In 2012, he went 138-of-221 with 1,367 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions in just eight games of action. This is a man that can come into Indy and win games, if need be.
But, he will be predominately used as a mentor for Luck. The rookie sensation, and the young Colts organization, needs an experienced player throwing around tips.
Hasselbeck ir more than qualified to fill that role. He is a veteran with 15 years of quality NFL experience, and he’ll be ready to relay that knowledge to a very bright young player.
It is a match made in heaven, and a smart signing by the Colts front office.
