Indianapolis Colts: Why Game Against Kansas City Chiefs Will Be an Easy Win
Posted By Tyler Brooke On December 19, 2012 @ 11:10 am In Colts News | No Comments
The Indianapolis Colts are sitting at 9-5 this year. With only two games remaining, the Colts are on the verge of making the playoffs again, this time without their former star Peyton Manning .
Regardless of how the postseason turns out for the Colts, they should be proud that they have been able to turn this franchise around so quickly after being the worst team in the NFL last year.
In order to make the playoffs, the Colts will need to win either this week against the Kansas City Chiefs or next week against the Houston Texans . If the Texans clinch a first-round bye this week, it is likely they will rest their starters next week.
The Colts will be ready for the Chiefs this week as they look to clinch a playoff spot. This added motivation will have the Colts playing harder than they usually would against a weaker team.
The Chiefs come into this game with the second-worst passing offense in the NFL. While the Colts haven’t been the best at defending the pass, this game could help them turn that around. Players like Cassius Vaughn and Darius Butler will look to get some interceptions this week.
Along with a poor passing game, the Chiefs also struggle to defend the run. The Colts have found a running back who is emerging as a good back in Vick Ballard. He was able to run for 105 yards against the Houston Texans, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. This is a promising sign for Ballard, and it should hopefully continue this week against the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have struggled to pick off opposing quarterbacks. With only seven interceptions, they are tied for the fewest in the NFL. Andrew Luck will have an opportunity to show off his arm, and hopefully be able to not throw an interception for the second straight game.
The only thing that may cause the Colts trouble will be the Chiefs’ running back, Jamaal Charles. He has had another big season, running for 1,230 yards and four touchdowns so far.
The Colts tend to struggle against the run, so they may need to put significantly more focus on Charles than the passing game.
With a win putting the Colts in the playoffs, the Colts will be more prepared than ever to face this weak Chiefs team. With enough focus on their weaknesses, the Colts will win this game and begin preparing for the playoffs.
