Could Arians Be in Line for a Head Coaching Job and Other AFC South Must-Reads

Posted By Nate Dunlevy On December 6, 2012 @ 7:55 am In Colts News | No Comments

Bruce Arians has made it clear all year that he is not the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts [1].

That position is filled.

Despite implying early in the year that he was content to be a coordinator, Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com quotes [2] Arians that he would be interested in a head coaching job.

Arians has a long resume of developing star quarterbacks, and teams looking to rebuild could find that attractive.

It would be curious to see how Arians would do in a situation where he was the principle voice. He’s best known for his offensive strategies which can drive some fans crazy, but have produced good results.

Arians has shown integrity with the role he’s played as interim coach in Indianapolis. He’s gone to great lengths not to usurp the authority of Chuck Pagano. There will be no coaching controversy once Pagano returns.

While the Colts would probably miss Arians, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for the team if he was hired away.

Should the Colts regress next year under Pagano, the calls for Arians to return as coach would be loud. If he was unavailable, it could actually make things easier on Pagano.

With any of a dozen jobs potentially available, it makes sense that Arians will at least get a lot of calls after the season.

The Colts hope he’s too busy creating playoff game plans to field them.
