Colts vs. Bears: Spread Info, Line and Predictions
Posted By Pete Schauer On September 7, 2012 @ 8:00 am In Colts News | No Comments
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will make his first career NFL start this Sunday against the Chicago Bears , in what will likely be an outstanding career for the 22-year-old rookie.
If you’re into fantasy football or testing your luck on the games, you’re in the right place.
Below, you will find complete game information, including the betting lines, fantasy impact, keys to each team’s win and my final prediction.
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois
When: 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday
Spread: Bears -10 (Bovada)
I took the Chicago Bears in my game-by-game predictions and I’m sticking to it.
I’m not usually a big fan of hefty spreads, but in this situation I would take the Bears. Chicago is a defensive-minded team, while Andrew Luck will be starting in his first regular season game in the NFL for the Colts.
Judging by his preseason, Luck is going to have great success in the NFL, but the Colts’ defense is going to prevent him from earning some wins this season.
All Chicago in this one.
Over/Under: 43.5 (Bovada)
Go with the over in this situation.
In 2011, the Bears scored at least 30 points in nine of their 16 games, and they’re going against a weak Indianapolis defense in this one.
Last season, according to Bovada, the total has gone over in 14 of the Colts’ last 19 road games, while it’s also gone over in five of Chicago’s last six games at home.
I would take the over.
Key Injuries: (via CBS Sports )
IND WR Austin Collie—HEAD—QST
IND RB Mewelde Moore—CHEST—PRB
IND CB Jerraud Powers—KNEE—PRB
IND DE Cory Redding—KNEE—PRB
CHI S Chris Conte—SHOULDER—QST
CHI LB Brian Urlacher—KNEE—QST
CHI DL Nate Collins—SUSPENSION—ELG
Big Fantasy Players:
If you’re in a PPR league, Matt Forte is a must-start fantasy player this week. Even if it’s not a PPR league, I would still go with Forte.
This is an extremely weak Colts defense and Forte shouldn’t have a problem exposing that on Sunday.
ESPN’s Matthew Berry ranks Forte No. 7 on his list of top running backs for Week 1.
Reggie Wayne is going to be Luck’s No. 1 option this season, but that also means that he’s going to see a lot of double coverage.
With Wayne blanketed for most of the season, I like Coby Fleener to see a lot of passes come his way.
Fleener and Luck were teammates at Stanford and already have their timing and connection down.
He’s not a high-ranking TE this week, but don’t be surprised if he rises through the ranks as we get deeper into the season.
Keys to a Colts Win: No Turnovers
If Indianapolis is going to leave Soldier Field with a win, it’s going to need rookie QB Andrew Luck & Co. to take care of the football.
This ball-hawking Bears defense had 31 takeaways just a season ago, which ranked tied for fourth in the NFC.
Indy will need to keep this a low-scoring game and make zero mistakes to win this one.
Keys to a Bears Win: Expose Colts’ Weak D
The Colts’ defense looked dismal for much of this preseason and that’s exactly what I expect the Bears’ offense to key in on.
There’s not a corner on Indianapolis who can stick Brandon Marshall for four quarters, and I’m expecting him and Cutler to have a field day.
When the Colts begin to worry too much about the air game, Chicago will hit them with Forte and the ground game, exposing this weak defense.
Prediction: Bears 31, Colts 14
This isn’t going to be a close game once it’s all said and done.
Expect Andrew Luck to find some success in his first NFL start, but Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte steal the show.
