Andrew Luck: Indianapolis Colts QB Makes History with Comeback Victory

Posted By Eric Evans On December 3, 2012 @ 9:18 am In Colts News | No Comments

The list of things that Andrew Luck [1] has done that Peyton Manning [2] never did continues to grow.

Luck added to that list with an epic come-from-behind 35-33 victory over the Detroit Lions [3] on Sunday. The Colts [4] scored a game-winning touchdown with no time remaining for the first time since the 1990 season, well before Manning arrived in Indianapolis.

That isn’t the only record Luck has chased down. Last month, Luck broke Cam Newton’s rookie passing record for a game with 433 yards against the Miami Dolphins [5]. Luck also broke Newton’s record for 300-yard games as a rookie this week by recording his sixth such game of the season.

Luck is also on pace to break Newton’s rookie record for passing yards in a season. Newton had 4,051 yards his rookie season, Luck is currently on pace to throw for just over 4,600 yards.

Manning threw for just over 3,700 yards his rookie season, another Colts rookie record that Luck will undoubtedly break.

While setting records is great, Luck is also doing something more important in his rookie year that Manning did not do—win.

The Colts are currently sitting with a record of 8-4 and control their own destiny for an AFC wild card spot. Although Luck has had plenty of help from his teammates in winning games this season, the team is largely still intact from last season’s 2-14 debacle.

Manning only managed to win three games in his 1998 rookie season.

Luck has already set the record for wins in a rookie season by a No. 1 overall draft pick. His eight wins broke the record of seven held by Sam Bradford [6] and Jim Plunkett.

Luck still has a long way to go to be considered in the same class as Manning from a historical standpoint. However, he is doing a good job of not only living up to the hype of being the legend’s replacement but also managing to exceed the expectations placed upon him. Luck is leaving no doubt that he will be chasing more of Manning’s records for years to come.
