Andrew Luck Follows a Legend and Other Must-Reads from Around the AFC South

Posted By Nate Dunlevy On September 20, 2012 @ 8:02 am In Colts News | No Comments

It can’t be easy to do your job when people are tracking your every move.

Today’s article of the day comes from Scott Kacsmar writing for Colts Authority [1]. He’s doing an incredible weekly series in which he measures everything Andrew Luck [2] does as he tries to replace Peyton Manning [3] in Indianapolis.

Kacsmar is tracking things like yards after the catch, pressure rate and snap-to-release time, in an effort to put out the most complete chronicle of a quarterback’s career ever done.

The article in and of itself is worth a read, but so is everything Kacsmar writes. His work shows up on Bleacher Report [4], Cold Hard Football Facts [5] and NBC Sports [6].

His lengthy, research-intensive articles symbolize a new golden-age for football writing. Soaring prose may be dead, but honestly, we may be better off for it. Sports isn’t Shakespeare, after all.

Anyone who peruses the General Interest section of this space every day will see a plethora of smart and talented writers like Mike Tanier, Chase Stuart, Jason Lisk, Brian Burke, Chris Brown and on and on and on.

Baseball has benefited greatly from smarter writers asking the right questions about the game, and now football is being “attacked” in a similar manner every day.

The result of smarter writers will be smarter fans. The result of smarter fans will be greater accountability for the teams they root for.

Greater accountability will mean better football for everyone.
