4 Things the Indianapolis Colts Must Do This Offseason

Despite the overwhelmingly positive turnaround the Indianapolis Colts experienced in 2012, there is always room for improvement within a team. These are just four examples of where the Colts should start.
Get a New, BETTER offensive Line
Imagine how much more amazing Andrew Luck could be if he had a strong O-line—one that kept him from getting sacked 41 times and dropping back more than any other quarterback in the league.
There will be plenty of talent available on the free-agency market for the Colts to select from if they choose to make an upgrade. The Colts will draft late in April, but this does not necessarily mean there won’t be skilled players for the offensive line late in the first round.
Stepping up the D
How about getting a shutdown corner? The Colts have lacked a solid one since, well, a long time. Davis was supposed to be just that, but had a rocky season. It’s time to spend the bucks to acquire one someone who can live up to his rep.
Or, you know, they could also improve at DT, DE, LB or NT. Not that the team does not have some great talent, but it could always help to improve an underrated defense.
Not Spending It All in One Place
What I mean by this is on big free-agent names. It is difficult to know if free-agent signings are going to have any sort of longevity. NFL .com’s Daniel Jeremiah reports that the Ravens could let Ed Reed enter free agency, and that the Colts would be a possible destination He is just one example of someone who would cost a lot of money, and well, will just cost a lot of money. The Nash’s of the NFL if you will. I’m not saying he is not fantastic, but we need to put our long-term glasses on.
This will be an interesting year for the Colts as they will not be building Polian styles again.
Eliminate the Number of Turnovers
It’s never a good thing when your QB shares a stat with Mark Sanchez . Luck is amazing and it is hard to argue against that. However, he had 18 interceptions, the same as Sanchez (Brees and Romo had 19). This stat is partially due to the number of deep throws and vertical routes. That, and the fact that he was rushed a whole lot this season.
There were also around 10 fumbles that led to turnovers.
The following season should help to eliminate turnovers if the O-line is improved. That would provide Luck with more time in the pocket to make hopefully make better decisions. Additionally, Luck has already showed signs of improvement, and his wide receivers are still young (besides Wayne). Going into a second season, we may see continuing improvement, especially if the Colts add a second dependable WR.
